There is no coat-of-arms recorded for the Mangum family. This is not too surprising since it is unlikely that the name was spelled Mangum before the migration to the new world. There are several "Arms" recorded for families with similar sounding names and it is possible that one or the other was the family from which the New World Mangums
came.
The Coat of Arms shown here is one given to the MANINGHAM family. The descriptions vary slightly from book to book. If you request a coat-of-arms from one of the numerous commercial suppliers, it likely will look similar to this one. These arms are similar to the old copy which the family had many years ago and is rumored to be the same one used by the N.C. Senator Willie Person Mangum (1792-1861). We suspect, however, that all those 'arms' were obtained from commercial sources and that no one actually established that Maningham became Mangum in the New World.
