horizontal rule

Bennett Rose was born in North Carolina in 1788. He moved to Warren Co., Tennessee sometime before 1814, probably with his father's family. He enlisted there for service in the 'War of 1812' on 18 Sept. 1814. He entered the service as a 3rd Sergeant, mounted gunman in the Tennessee volunteers of Warren County, Tennessee. His enlistment was for 6 months and he was discharged at Nashville on 27 March 1815.

Bennet Rose moved to Lauderdale Co., Alabama about 1818 and obtained Government land which had previously been Indian lands. Bennett married Nancy Burney in Lauderdale County, Alabama. We believe Nancy's father was Samuel Burney, Revolutionary War soldier. Nancy named a son Samuel Adam Burney Rose probably after her father and an uncle. Bennet and well as his father and sons were public officials, usually Justices of Peace, Constable, etc. Bennett was appointed Justice of the Peace of Lauderdale County in 1825 and served until at least 1828.

The 1850 census shows Bennett age 62, Nancy age 54, Rhoda Ann age 20, William J. age 19, Burtice S. age 16 and Samuel A. B. age 12. The other children had already left home. In Limestone County on 14 Dec. 1850 Bennett applied for and received a bounty land warranty of 80 acres for his war service. Bennett died in Limestone County on 3 Jan. 1852

On 13 Aug. 1855 Nancy, Bennet's widow applied for a widow's bounty on her husbands military service.
